With her Right Here, Right Now Quartet Charlotte Keeffe enables raw musical ingredients and individual expressions to come together and flow. She is captivated by trumpeters like Jaimie Branch, Peter Evans, Tomasz Stańko, Nate Wooley and Lester Bowie, and inspired by abstract painters – referring to her horns as ‘Sound Brushes’.
Simian Carbuncle are a guitar duo exploring the sonic possibilities of unorthodox techniques; two likeminded and exploratory improvisors regularly performing and partaking of the heady improvised music scenes of Brighton and London.
The rule has always been “no effects”; it’s about what sounds we can make with the guitar on its own… but with preparations, so sticking a file into the pickups to make an audio click is ok!
Adrian Southby is a multi-instrumentalist and improviser based in Brighton. Long standing projects Simian Carbuncle and Mutter have proved fertile breeding grounds for experimentation with prepared guitars and extended techniques. He regularly performs in Brighton and London with a number of collaborators and ensembles, and is a regular participant with Brighton’s Safehouse collective.
